Inner Groove
Gary is a native Canadian. He displayed an affinity
for music at a young age while growing up in his
home town of Fort Frances, a remote settlement in
Northern Ontario. Showing considerable promise as a
young guitarist and desiring professional
instruction, Gary began commuting to the city of
Winnipeg, Manitoba to study classical guitar with
David Letkeman. Following this he began formal
musical training at the University of Western
Ontario where he studied classical guitar with
Robert Kubica, jazz guitar with Andrew Jacob Scott,
and composition with Omar Daniel, Peter Paul
Koprowski and David Myska. Upon completion of his BA
in Music Theory and Composition in 2007 he was
awarded the University of Western Ontario Gold Medal
in Music.
Gary has composed for a variety of ensembles,
ranging from solo repertoire to orchestral works,
which have received numerous successful performances
in Canada and abroad. He is a founding member and
lead guitarist of the funk group Sweet Lady, whose
debut album, Pocket Monsters, was released in the
spring of 2007. He has performed as guest guitarist
with the University of Western Ontario Wind Ensemble
and as lead guitarist for the University of Western
Ontario Jazz Ensemble.
